Celebrating the 90th anniversary of the Japanese Hall and Japan/Canada Relations 1928-2018
Go back in time with us to experience the history of the pre-war Japanese Canadian community along Powell Street (Japantown). The walking tour will meet in front of the Vancouver Japanese Language School & Japanese Hall's main entrance (475 Alexander Street). The tour will start with a building tour of the Japanese Hall's 1928 Heritage Building (475 Alexander St) which has been transformed into Childen's World Childcare Centre and then walk along Powell Street to reimagine life on Powell Street before the Japanese Canadian Internment in 1942-49 which shattered the community.
